ロビー・ザ・ロボット

　ロビー・ザ・ロボットはMGMの初めての大作SF映画『禁断の惑星』（1956年）のために1954年に考案されました。デザインは、Robert Kinoshita, Arthur Lonergan, Arnold Gillespie が担当しました。
　上映されるやいちやく有名になり、次の出演作 "The Invisible boy" ではスター並の出演料が支払われました。その後 "The Thin Man", "The Twilight Zone", や "Lost In Space" の3作品などのテレビ映画などに出演しました。また、映画『グレムリン』にも出演しています。
　多くのファンを得たロビー・ザ・ロボットは、1950年代を代表するロボットといえるでしょう。
　ロビー・ザ・ロボットの将来は定かではありませんが、現在、映画制作と映画小道具収集家の "Willian Malone" の下で束の間の休暇をとっているところです。

　

　

ROBBY THE ROBOT

Robby the Robot was first conceived in 1954 for the feature film FORBIDDEN PLANET (1956), MGM's first foray into big budget science fiction. Designed by Robert Kinoshita, Arthur Lonergan, and Arnold Gillespie, Robby was an instant hit. In his second film "The Invisible Boy", Robby was given star billing. Robby continued appearing in many TV shows including "The Thin Man", "The Twilight Zone", three episodes of "Lost In Space", "Mork and Mindy" and many others. He also appeared in the feature film "Gremlins".
Robby has become something much more than a movie prop. He is now an indelible image and icon for the 1950s. Though for a time Robby's future was uncertain, he now rests in quiet retirement in the hands of movie director and film archivist William Malone.
